The horrific oil spill in the gulf is once again focusing attention on how our government communicates with the public during a crisis. There are pundits on both sides, but all agree that faster outreach and clearer communication would have been better. Public messaging still seems to be a challenge for our government in a crisis. I believe part of the reason is the minimal amount of planning and preparing around public messaging.

I just wanted to note that today is the last Executive Committee meeting with Sara DeCarlo as Chair of the committee. I want to thank her for a fantastic year where her leadership, in spite of numerous personal challenges, never wavered from her committment to improving the organization. We had a great year in trying economic times with increased volunteerism, events, conferences and SIGs all improving.

I want to thank everyone who voted for me, and those that did not in the candidancy of ACT/IAC Vice Chair! I certainly intend to earn your trust and exceed the job expected of me.
The coming year will be enjoyable working with Andy Robinson and the rest of the elected Executive Committee. The slate of candidates was outstanding, I know it was difficult for me to vote for some and not for others.

After two years on the Executive Committee I am seeking your vote for Vice Chair of the EC. My first year’s effort, during tough economic times, was leading the change to the way IAC has done event sponsorship out reach. That led to the Ambassadors program, the Event Contributor’s government executive breakfasts and a new focus on corporate members. This effort has really delivered.

Planning committee of MOC 2010 met today with everyone in attendance as the event is just 4 short weeks away. With sponsorship and attendance figures running ahead of schedule we are looking forward to a great event in Philadelphia. Great speakers, events and 4 dynamite workshops should make the conference the best ever. 30 years of MOC!
